One day every term we have Enrichment! Here at Moss Hey we talk about great behaviour for learning, but also great behaviours for life. Our Enrichment days are therefore a time to focus on areas of learning above and beyond the set curriculum and delve into Key Skills that we believe children need to become successful in their future learning and life.
Our Golden Thread of values, (Respect, tolerance, kindness, friendship and happiness) runs through everything that we do and say and underpins our enrichment activities. Working with the pupils, we then explored deeper into these values to establish some Key Learning Behaviours. These key behaviours are: Independence, concentration, teamwork, resilience and Creativity. These are represented through the following animals:
Independent Iguana Concentrating Crocodile Teamwork Tiger
Resilient Rhino Creative Chameleon
Every second half term for one full day children take part in an Enrichment activity that teachers have planned for a mixed-age group of children. Key Stage 1 (including reception) are on one day and Key Stage 2 are on a different day.
Enrichment days offer children experiences and learning opportunities that go beyond the curriculum, such as: circus skills, first aid, forest adventures and gardening.
Our enrichment days are an excellent opportunity for parents to come in and work alongside their children. Our links with the community come into their own as the local church runs enrichment activities too.
Feedback from pupils is extremely positive; children love working with children from different classes and with different adults. Parents too enjoy coming in to see their children working and learning in different contexts.
