Year 4 2020 - 2021
Welcome to Year 4
Teacher: Miss Roberts
Teaching Assistants: Mrs Groake and Miss Neal
We are already looking forward to a fun and exciting year, with lots already planned.
In the Autumn term we will be investigating how Europe has changed, as well as comparing different areas within the continent. We will look at Greek Gods and how they influenced things in the modern world and use the book ‘Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief’.
In the Spring term we will investigate the question ‘What did the Romans ever do for us?’, finding out what they wore, what Julius Caesar did and how the Romans invaded areas of Europe. We will also be going to Chester to find out more about the Romans and what they left behind.
In the Summer term we will be investigating Rivers, finding out how they are formed, where they start and do they ever end? We will also be visiting Crowden to explore more about rivers, what living things you are likely to find and to answer some of our questions.
Please ensure that children have both indoor and outdoor PE kits in school each day, though outdoor PE takes place on a Tuesday. Children will be swimming on a Tuesday morning for Autumn term. Please make sure long hair is tied up and no jewelry is worn.
Spellings and homework
There are weekly spellings taken from the Year 3 and 4 spellings list. We will have a spelling quiz every Friday. Please encourage your child to work on their spellings regularly.
Homework is to be handed in every Thursday ready to be marked.
Reading and Times Tables
It is essential that your child reads every day. They do not always have to read a school book but please encourage your child to read something every day. Children should continue to practice their times tables throughout the year so they are able to recall them quickly, as well as knowing the inverse. Please encourage your child to use Timestable Rockstars as well to help improve their recall speed.
Please ensure that children have a water bottle in school each day. We encourage them to take their bottles home each afternoon so they can be washed.
In Key Stage 2, children are encouraged to bring a snack to school to eat at break time. Please ensure that this is a piece of fruit/vegetable.
Please use Class Dojo to contact Year 4 and look out for class messages and photos.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or queries.
