Spellings and homework

In Year 2, the children are working towards becoming confident, fluent readers, who show a good understanding of the texts they read. Please read 10 minutes every day and make a comment in the reading journal.

Children are given weekly spellings to practise at home. We will have spelling dictation on a Thursday. Please encourage your child to work on their spellings regularly.

Please practise number bonds to 10, 20 and 100. A short, timed quiz will take place each week.

Timetable

Our timetable for Year Two is as follows:

  • Mrs Malkin teaches Monday to Thursday.
  • Mrs Rennocks teaches on a Friday.
  • PE is delivered by our specialist coach on a Wednesday afternoon and additional session is taught on a Friday. Both, indoor and outdoor kits with pumps or trainers will be needed on both days. Please name all items.
  • English, Maths and Phonics/Spelling/grammar taught every morning.
  • Foundation subjects taught in the afternoons.
  • ‘Interest’ will take place on a Wednesday. Children can bring in topic related items, certificates and awards.

Snacks and drinks

The children will continue to have snack provided and will eat this during play time. The children can still bring in their own snack if they so wish. A named drink bottle filled with water is required every day.
