Year 1 2019-2020
Welcome to Year 1
Class teacher: Mrs Jordan
Teaching Assistants: Mrs Stanier and Mrs Green
Welcome to Year 1’s page where you can find out about all the exciting things that we get up to!
The Year 1 class is taught by Mrs Jordan with support from our Key Stage One HLTA Mrs Stanier.
Our first theme in the autumn term is “The Naughty Bus.”
We shall focus on our school and the local area of Bramhall.
In spring the theme is “Memory Box.”
We shall spend this term investigating how life has changed since our parents and grandparents were 5 and 6.
The summer term theme is “Enchanted Woodlands”
We shall be comparing the differences between our English woodlands and the Daintree Rainforest in Australia.
As you are aware this shall continue in a similar style as Reception. Children shall be given 6 Rainbow Challenges to complete over the week. These challenges support and enhance their learning and will help them to become independent learners.
During the first term these will be voluntary but highly encouraged. When a child completes all their Rainbow Challenges during Monday – Thursday they shall receive a completion certificate. After they have received 3 certificates they will also gain a prize.
After Christmas the challenges become compulsory. These will have to be completed before they can choose an independent activity and certificates will no longer be used as an incentive.
Your child’s P.E days are Wednesday and Friday. Please can I ask that children have an indoor and outdoor kit in school at all times as this also helps if your child needs a change of clothes i.e getting muddy.
As our British weather is extremely unpredictable, please can you ensure your child has a coat in school each day in case of rain. We do encourage the children to use our outdoor learning space and we would hate for them to miss out. Can I also ask that all items of clothes are named so that any lost property can be returned.
Please can homework books be returned to class on a Thursday morning and I shall return them on a Friday ready for the weekend. The homework grid has been designed to help your child become confident with the basic skills that will support your child’s learning this year.
We would love all reading books to be brought in on a daily basis with their reading diary. An adult shall read with your child each week and this shall be recorded in their diary. I am always assessing when your child is ready to move up to the next book band and I will always let you know when I feel they are ready to move on.
Water bottles and snacks
Your child has access to fruit each day which is supplied by the school. However, if you choose to send in a healthy snack that is absolutely fine. The children shall eat their snack during their playtime so please ensure it is something suitable. Please can you also ensure that you bring a water bottle in each day. The children can also refill this throughout the day.
As you are aware we have an online booking system for lunches, this must be done from home please.
I have sent out invites to join our class dojo and this is where I shall communicate with you the most. There is an app which is available to download for free and this is the most efficient way to contact me if needed. I also post pictures of the children’s work on class story so please keep your eyes peeled for them to appear.
Apologies for information overload, however I wanted to try and answer all of your queries. If you do have any other questions please message me on DOJO and I shall endeavour to respond as soon as I possibly can.
Many thanks for taking the time to support us.
