Welcome to Reception!
Class teacher: Miss Davidson & Mrs Clarke (PPA cover)
Teaching Assistants: Mrs Evans and Mrs Kelly
Welcome to Reception’s page where you can find out about all the exciting things that we get up to!
In Reception, we create a stimulating environment that allows the children to become independent and resilient learners. Personal and social development is a significant part of the children’s time in Reception and during their first year of school, we strive to inspire a love of learning that will continue throughout their time at Moss Hey!
We have three broad themes that we cover throughout the year:
Autumn term – Celebrating Moss Hey
Spring term – Journeys
Summer term – Animals

Every Tuesday we will have Interest Time. Your child can bring in one item of interest that they would like to share with their group. The aim of the session is for us to get an idea of what your child is interested in so that we can tailor our environment to their interests and needs. During the session we also seek to develop the children’s self-confidence and listening skills as well as their speech and language.
Once we are settled in to school life, your child will get a homework book with a grid of activities for you to complete over the half term. This book will be collected in each Wednesday and returned on a Thursday. Please complete the homework as and when it works for you!
Reading will start later on in the term after we have started to teach phonics. Once the books are sent home your child is welcome to change their book as often as they/ you would like as long as you have put a * next to the title of the book in the reading diary. Please also write a positive comment and leave the book in their book bags at all times.
You will receive a letter with more information about Tapestry very soon. Anything put on Tapestry can be printed out but must not at any time be put on any social media groups.
We kindly ask for a voluntary contribution of £2 per term or £6 for the year to help buy real life objects that will enhance our environment and enrich your child’s learning experiences. Please hand the money in to the office.
We love to involve parents as much as we can do in school life, this will start next half term once the children are settled within their environment.
PE is on a Thursday afternoon with Mrs Clarke. Please ensure all PE clothes and school uniforms are labelled. You will only need a PE t-shirt, shorts and pumps up until Christmas.
We provide fruit and milk every day, however, your child is welcome to bring in their own if they’d prefer. Please write their name on their snack and place it in their book bag.
Please remember to order a lunch at home, I will double check each morning in school.
Please use Class Dojo to contact Reception and look out for class messages and photos.
- Please ensure that water bottles are full when coming into school
- PPA time will be on a Thursday afternoon. This means that I will be out of the class during that time. The children will be taught by Mrs Clarke.
- Please provide a spare pair of pants and socks in their PE bag, even if your child is not prone to accidents.
I have loved getting to know your children these first few days and I am really excited for this term. Please do not hesitate to come and ask me about anything as it is important to us that you feel settled at Moss Hey, as well as your children.
Many thanks for your support.
