Early Years Foundation Stage- Reception 2020 - 2021
Welcome to Reception!
Class teacher: Miss Davidson & Mrs Clarke (PPA cover)
Teaching Assistants: Mrs Evans, Mrs Kelly and Miss Rogers
Welcome to Reception’s page where you can find out about all the exciting things that we get up to!
In Reception, we create a stimulating environment that allows the children to become independent and resilient learners. Personal and social development is a significant part of the children’s time in Reception and during their first year of school, we strive to inspire a love of learning that will continue throughout their time at Moss Hey!
We have a different theme each half term:
Autumn 1 – All about me
Autumn 2 - Celebrations
Spring 1 – Superheroes
Spring 2 - Spring time
Summer 1 - Animals
Summer 2 - Fairy tales

Every Tuesday we will have Interest Time. Instead of bringing things into school, please send me a photo of your child's interest on Class Dojo. The aim of the session is to seek to develop the children’s self-confidence and listening skills as well as their speech and language.
Once we are settled in to school life, I will set homework tasks on Class Dojo. You will also receive a log in for Mathletics and Rising Stars. Please complete the homework as and when it works for you!
Reading will start later on in the term after we have started to teach phonics. Please read with your child daily. Once the books are sent home your child is welcome to change their book as often as they/you would like. Please put a * next to the title of the book in the reading diary or write a comment so we know you are ready for the book to be changed. Please leave the book in their book bags at all times.
I will set you up on Tapestry very soon! Anything put on Tapestry can be printed out but must not at any time be put on any social media groups.
PE is on a Thursday. Please ensure all PE clothes and school uniforms are labelled. You will need a full outdoor kit and trainers as we will be doing all PE lessons outside for the forseeable.
We provide fruit and milk every day, however, your child is welcome to bring in their own healthy, nut free snack if they’d prefer. Please write their name on their snack and place it in their book bag.
Please remember to order a lunch at home. We advise ordering lunches all in one go for the term.
This will be our main form of communication at the moment. Please use Class Dojo to contact me with any questions and look out for class messages and photos.
- Please ensure that water bottles are full and named
- PPA time will be on a Thursday afternoon. This means that I will be out of the class during that time. The children will be taught by Mrs Clarke.
- Please provide a spare pair of pants and socks in their PE bag, even if your child is not prone to accidents.
I have loved getting to know your children these first few days and I am really excited for this term. Please do not hesitate to come and ask me about anything as it is important to us that you feel settled at Moss Hey, as well as your children.
Many thanks for your support.
